Status Monitoring

SNMP Status Monitoring shows the connection status and general health (for example, errors, uptime, or color / duplex settings) for a selected printer object in the Admin Console tree view.

Overview

Setting up SNMP Status Monitoring is relatively simple. The printer you're gathering information on must exist in the Admin Console. SNMP Status Monitoring must be enabled using the SNMP Settings section on Tools then Settings then General. A Service Client running the SNMP service collects the printer data and channels it to your PrinterLogic instance.
For configuration steps, reference SNMP with a Service Client.

By default, PrinterLogic uses SNMP v1/v2, and supports v3 both in the printer-specific settings in the Status tab and in the default settings in Tools then Settings then General under the SNMP Settings section.

Using SNMP Status Monitoring through the Service Client is the recommended route, but there is also the option for workstation clients to report SNMP information back to the PrinterLogic instance. This option is limited to SNMP v1/v2 and the printers installed on workstations where the client is present.

For steps, reference SNMP without a Service Client.

Once configured, the Status Tab, Printer Info Tab, and printer reports populate with the information received during the SNMP query. You can also use the Alerts feature, which relies on the SNMP traffic.

These configurations are discussed further in the sections that follow.
