Client Settings Tab

Navigate to the Client Settings tab on Tools then Settings then Client in the Admin Console. These are your general client check-in, sync, printer management, and client configuration settings. Below is a brief overview of the settings.

Client Check-in

The client check-in is when the endpoint client communicates with the PrinterLogic instance to pull down any Admin Console changes, updates to installed printers and drivers, and installs/uninstalls deployed printers.

  • Enable client check-in at startup and login: This default option is always enabled and allows the client to check in with the web service.
  • Enable client check-in every 'x' minutes: This option lets you change the frequency the client checks in with the web service.
    •  The minimum check-in time is 240 minutes.

TCP/IP & Windows Shared Printer Settings

These sync settings impact deployed printers and printer objects removed from the Admin Console.

  • Sync Delete: With this setting enabled, printer objects deleted from the Admin Console uninstall from endpoints during their next client check-in.
  • Sync Deployment: With this setting enabled, deployed printers will uninstall from endpoints if the deployment association is no longer present on the device or if the association was removed from the printer object's Deploy tab.
  • Keep Existing Printers: If a deployed printer existed on an endpoint before an administrator created the deployment, the printer stays installed if the deployment is removed.

TCP/IP Printer Settings

These settings provide additional printer management and sync options.

  • Automatically manage all end-user TCP/IP printers: With this setting enabled, if a previously installed printer matches up with a printer object in the Admin Console, PrinterLogic will manage it.
  • Create connections to shared TCP/IP printers: This option enables you to create a network printer connection (instead of a TCP/IP printer) from a print server with the PrinterLogic client installed.
    • The printer must be deployed to a print server with the Shared option enabled on the printer object's Deploy tab.
  • Sync General/Port: With this setting enabled, if you update a printer object's General or Port tab information in the Admin Console, workstations with that printer installed update during their next client check-in.
  • Sync Driver: With this setting enabled, if you update or change a printer object's driver in the Admin Console, workstations with that printer installed update during their next client check-in.
  • Sync Profiles: With this setting enabled, if you add or update a printer object's driver profile in the Admin Console, workstations with that printer installed update during their next client check-in.
    • There are two default settings for profiles below. These settings help maintain driver profiles within an environment. Change this setting for individual printers on their Drivers/Profiles tab in the Profiling Options.

    • Reference Add a Profile for steps.

  • Allow non-administrators to modify/delete TCP/IP printers: This setting allows end-users to alter the settings on TCP/IP printers installed with PrinterLogic.
  • Allow end-users to capture printer ports for legacy applications: Enabling this option adds an icon to the system tray menu allowing end users to capture printer ports (such as LPT1) and direct output to a TCP/IP printer.

Windows Shared Printer Settings

These options impact environments using Windows Print Server Links.

  • Create/Delete Global Printers (Per Workstation): Click this option if you want any printer installed from the portal to be automatically available to all users who log into the workstation (not recommended).
  • Create/Delete Global Printers (Per User): Click this option so the printers installed from the portal are only available to the user(s) who installed them (default).
  • Remove end-user printers connections from roaming profiles: This option removes all shared printers from your roaming profiles. This feature can be useful when users login to workstations at different locations.
  • Remove all end-users printers connections when a user logs in to a terminal server: This option removes all shared printers when a user logs in to a Citrix session or Terminal Services session.

Shortcut Options

These settings allow you to choose what options display in the Self-service Portal, the Start menu, and the PrinterLogic icon in the system tray.

  • Show client options in system tray: With this setting enabled, PrinterLogic options display from the system tray icon.
  • Show client options on portal: Enable the specific features you want the Self-service Portal Menu to display for end-users.
  • Show PrinterLogic program folder in Start menu: Enable specific options accessible from the Start menu.
  • Select a short-cut to open the client console on end-user machines: This option controls the quick key used to open client logs.
    • Choose from CTRL+Shift+8, CTRL+Alt+8, CTRL+Alt+P, or none/disabled.

Automatic Client Update

These settings enable you to push endpoint client updates right from the PrinterLogic Admin Console.

Enable automatic update during the next client check in or refresh: With this setting enabled, endpoint clients will update to the client version displayed in the Update client if older than field.

  • The update occurs during the endpoints next client check-in(see client check-in settings on this tab), and happens entirely behind the scenes.
  • End users are not prompted or notified while the client is updated and the process only takes a minute, depending on network bandwidth.
  • If the system tray icon is enabled, end-users may notice it disappear while the old client uninstalls and reappear when the new client version is installed.
  • Update Client: Push this button for the operating system you wish to deploy the new client to.
  • Latest version: This field displays the latest version available to deploy.
  • Update client if older than: This field shows the last client version deployed using this method.
    • This field updates to the latest version when the Update Client button for the operating system is pushed.
    • If it says Not enabled, it simply means this method has not been used yet.

Deployable Client Packages

Here you can download the client installation files for the supported operating systems. Run the file on the individual workstation, or deploy it to endpoints using your preferred software management tool.

Home URL Security

The section enables you to switch between instances without needing to manually change the HomeURL and reinstall the client. This is mainly used for administrators managing more than one instance of PrinterLogic.

  • Prevent web pages from automatically changing the end-user's Home URL: Click this option to enable the end-user to switch between instances without having to manually change the HomeURL and reinstall the client.
  • Add: This button lets you enter the URL of a new instance that you want to add to the Home URL list. End-users can switch to that instance without having to reinstall the client on their workstation.
  • Remove: This button removes the URL from the Allow list. If the URL is removed from the Allow list, the client would need to be reinstalled or the URL changed manually before they could visit that instance.
  • Reference Update Home URL for manual options.

Microsoft Printer Conversions

These settings are used mainly when onboarding new sites after importing the printers into PrinterLogic. Rather than having to uninstall the existing printers, use these settings to convert them into ones managed by PrinterLogic.

  • Enable PrinterLogic Client to convert end-user's Microsoft printers that have been copied into PrinterLogic as TCP/IP printers or copied to Windows print servers: This setting enables the feature.
    • On workstations where printers are already installed, if the PrinterLogic client is also installed, any printers matching up with printer objects in the Admin Console will be converted and managed.
  • Change default printer after converting existing default printer: When converting printers, if the default printer is converted, mark the new managed printer as default.
  • Delete user's original Microsoft printer after successful conversion: This option removes the existing printer after the new printer is successfully created.

Write Filter Settings

Disable clients installed with write filter support: Select this option if the PrinterLogic client on the write-filtered computers is causing an infinite reboot loop. This option will stop the client from rebooting the computer as part of its check-in (when attempting to disable/enable the write filter to install printers).
