Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW)

EDW is currently only available for use with Windows OS and Microsoft SQL Database.

The Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) is a tool designed to help you to analyze your data using your own Business Intelligence (BI) tools. If you use a Microsoft SQL database, you can generate an access token from the Admin Console and download a utility to analyze your data.

With EDW, business analysts can create custom reports for resources managed with Vasion Print (formerly PrinterLogic) using standard BI tools like Crystal Reports, Domo, Tableau, and others.

Key Points

Here are some details about EDW:

  • Dimensional modeling is structured so that the tables, attributes, and values should be named clearly and descriptively, so the data structure can stand alone from the data source.
  • The business analyst who uses EDW does not necessarily need an understanding of Vasion Print (formerly PrinterLogic) to use the EDW data for reporting. However, because the data provided is related to sources Vasion Print (formerly PrinterLogic) tracks, the administrator must have it set up and configured correctly before running the reports.
  • The dimensions and facts required to build your reports are available in the EDW Dimesions document.

You need to configure EDW before using your Business Intelligence (BI) tool to collect data on your printing environment.

Requirements

The following is required to configure EDW:

  • SQL server - version 2016 SP1 or above. Microsoft SQL Server 2019 is also required if you use Windows 11.
  • Windows 2016+ server, Windows 10, or Windows 11.
  • Admin access to your Microsoft SQL database.
  • Download the Enterprise Data Warehouse Utility.

We recommend access to Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.

Once configured, the EDW utility extracts, transforms, and loads data from printers and then deploys it to the SQL server. This data is used with your BI tool to create custom reports on your printing environment. The following section guides you through this configuration.

Please note that this documentation is written using Microsoft Windows Server 2019 with SQL Server 2019 Standard. We additionally suggest the use of the SQL Server Configuration Manager tool.
