PrinterLogic App

Be sure not to mistake the PrinterLogic App, a mobile app that enables you to release pull print jobs to a printer, with the Control Panel Application, an application that is installed on a printer to release pull and secure release print jobs. Reference Control Panel Application (CPA) for more information.

Mobile Printing

The mobile printing feature allows you to print from any app on your device using printers that have been automatically deployed and managed by the IT administrator.

With the PrinterLogic App, IT can manage printing for iOS and Android devices the same way it does for other operating systems such as Windows, macOS, etc. Additionally, because PrinterLogic uses direct IP printing, all jobs stay local and are secure.

Mobile Secure Release

Secure release printing protects confidential information by making sure that you, and only you, receive the printed document. Secure release allows you to initiate a print job from any device, and release the print job when you are physically in front of the printer using your mobile device. This ensures the print job makes it into your hands, remaining secure.

Overview

The PrinterLogic App enables end-users to securely release a pull print, secure print, or mobile print job that is being held on their workstation or mobile device. Essentially, it is Pull Printing using a mobile device release mechanism. This mobile app can be downloaded either through Apple's App Store or the Google Play Store.

The image shows the initial screen where you can set the domain for your company's PrinterLogic instance. Once you select the Next button you can log in using Active Directory credentials or using an IdP login for options like Okta, Entra ID (Azure AD), etc.

To add some context to what this app does, let's say Mary is just leaving her workstation for a meeting in a first-floor conference room. Before Mary leaves her desk, she clicks File then Print in her spreadsheet and sends the print job to a Pull Print Queue, which holds the print job until Mary releases it.

If Mary has the PrinterLogic App installed on her phone, she can walk to any Pull Print-enabled Printer, pull out her phone, log into the app and release one or more print jobs in her queue to the printer at which she is standing. So, if there was a printer right outside the conference room, she could print her document just before she walks into the room, and any confidential information that may have been on the printed document will stay secure.

If you are unfamiliar with Pull Printing, it is a way of securing your printed output by "holding" the print job in a Print Queue on the workstation or mobile device until you are ready to send the print job to a specific, selected printer. You can then use any of the available release mechanisms such as the Control Panel Application, the PrinterLogic App, or the Release Portal to release the print job to the printer. Reference Pull Printing for more information.

The login process to the PrinterLogic App is straightforward. The URL and credentials you use to log in to the app must be the same used to login on your workstation or mobile device.

To release a print job from the Pull Print-enabled Printer, the mobile device needs to be able to communicate with your PrinterLogic instance. As long as you have an internet connection, you can release. For example, if Mary's PrinterLogic instance is printers.acme.com, and she uses her Active Directory credentials to log in on her workstation, then she must enter that same URL and Active Directory credentials when logging into the Mobile App.

Following a successful log in to the PrinterLogic App, you will see your print jobs being held in the Print Queue as shown in the image. You would see the same information if you logged in to the Release Portal.

Releasing print jobs can be done two different ways. The first is to use a more traditional method, and the other is to use a QR code to access the jobs and release them. The main difference with the two options is the ability to release multiple print jobs at once when using the QR code method. These methods are shown in more detail in the Mobile Printing topic.

Combining Mary's login example above with the image, Mary's spreadsheet appears as the first item. She can select the print job she wants to print, and then she will select the PrinterLogic Pull Print-enabled Printer that is going to discharge the print job.

If the end-user is releasing to a Secure Release Printer, only that printer will be automatically selected.

After the print job is printed, you will receive a notification that the job has been released. After released, the print job will be removed from the Print Queue and will no longer appear in the PrinterLogic App.

PrinterLogic supports the current operating system version (from supported manufacturers) plus two versions removed (maintenance releases do not count). For example, if Apple releases iOS 17, then iOS 16, and 15 will be supported.

Features

Print Release Screen

Once logged in to the release app, the default screen that opens is the Print Release screen. On this screen it will display all held print jobs that have been sent by you. From this screen you can select print jobs for Release as well as select jobs to delete. There is also a QR code reader option that when selected, will open a code reader. Scanning the QR code on or near a printer will automatically select it as the printer to release to.

Printers Screen

The Printers Screen lets you see a list of printers either deployed from the PrinterLogic Admin Console or manually installed from the app that you can print to from your mobile device.

Add Printer Screen

The Add Printer screen serves a similar function as the Self-service Portal in that it allows you to manually install a printer on your mobile device for use when printing. Once a printer is added from this screen, it will then be listed on your Printers screen in the app.

When printing from the mobile device, both pull printing and secure release printing are supported. When printing, the print job is held on the device, and you can only release the print job using the app. No other method to release the print job, such as the CPA or the Release Portal can be used.

Logging out

To log out of the app, you will need to click on the waffle icon. Doing this will open a modal with the logout icon near the bottom. Selecting the logout icon will sign you out of the app. The PrinterLogic mobile app will not automatically log you out.
